So What If I Am Selfish

The Importance of Taking Care of Yourself

Often times we over look the neccessity of taking care of us.  We are so busy running around here and there.  Whether it be for work, the children, family and friends.  I can raise my hand to say I am at fault as well.  We have to make ourselves take a step back an breathe.

When was the last time you actually took a bath?  No I am not saying you are dirty.  I know we all do the quick and convenient jump in the shower to was wash up.  I hope, but if not.  That is none of my business.  I mean when was the last time you were able to lay in a nice warm bath, with your head held back to relax and soak your muscles that are constantly on the go?

Warm baths are great.  However warms baths with extra natural additives are even better.  To make you bathing worth your while.  You could add the old school secret remedy of Epsom Salt to your tub.  I am living proof that Epsom Salt alone is a mircal drug to me.  Years ago, yes I said years ago.  When I was running track, I pulled my hamstring when attempting to do my high jump.  Collasped smack down on the ground.  Needless to say I had a meet the very next day.  My mother told me I would have to sit that one out, but in the meantime soak in the tub with Epsom Salt.  The very next day after soaking in the tub.  You would have never known that I had an injury.  I was completely find.  So guess what, I did not have to sit out.

The benefits of just using Epsom Salt:

  • Improved heart and circulatory health, reducing irregular heartbeats, preventing hardening of the arteries, reducing blood clots and lowering blood pressure.

  • Improved ability for the body to use insulin, reducing the incidence or severity of diabetes.

  • Flushed toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances.

  • Improved nerve function by electrolyte regulation. Also, calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood.

  • Relieved stress. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.

  • Reduced inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps.

  • Improved oxygen use.

  • Improved absorption of nutrients.

  • Improved formation of joint proteins, brain tissue and mucin proteins.

  • Prevention or easing of migraine headaches.

All this from a bath? Hurray! While there are many different brands of Epsom salt, they are all the same product chemically, and can be found at most drug stores. Add two cups of Epsom salt and soak for at least 12 minutes. Do this three times weekly.

Now think if you make your bath water on steriods by adding Coconut Milk to soften your skin an help with dryness, or Dead Sea Salt and beautiful botancials for that extra spa quality.  Bontancial flowers have amazing benefits as well.  Then top it off with added essential oils like Wintergreen, Chamomile, Rosemary, ummmmm.  Just to name a few.
